The next stop for Manchester United and Everton icon Wayne Rooney is D.C. United.

The English Premier League's second highest topscorer, Wayne Rooney, is ready to bang in the goals on American soil! His free transfer to DC United is nearly complete.

The striker updated his fans through social media with a happy picture of him flying out to Washington. The caption was simple. A plane. The United States of America's flag. Enough said. His focus, moving forward, will be to channel more spotlight on the MLS.

DC United are going through a bad run. Their last victory dates from more than a month ago when they downed SJ Earthquakes 3-1 away from home. The following match saw them snatch a late 1-1 draw against 10-men Los Angeles FC before being held at home in similar circumstances against North Carolina in the US Open Cup.

Losing 2-1 to Seattle Sounders and playing a thrilling 4-4 draw in Toronto in the Major League Soccer did little to boost their confidence against Orlando City in their most recent US Open Cup fixture. With the addition of Wayne Rooney in their roster on a two-and-a-half years contract, the Black-and-Red contenders will become the MLS team with the highest paid player as the deal is worth $13M in remuneration.

The Englishman will be making his debut just a day before the 2018 FIFA World Cup final takes place; that's on July 15 as his new club unveils its new Audi Field stadium.
