Match Preview

The Three Lions are expected to cruise past their Central America opponents with ease and quickly switch their attention to their final group game against Belgium - a matchup which may as well decide the winner of Group G. The Red Devils are currently in a comfortable six-point lead after recording a 5-2 win over Tunisia on Saturday.

With no previous meeting to account for between both Panama and England, the latter is expected to go all out and clinch a historic win. Confidence will be high in the camp of the Three Lions as they boast a very good record against countries from the CONCACAF region. In retrospect, the last time England lost against a Central American opponent was back at the 1950 World Cup.

For Panama, knowing that a defeat will mean the end of the road for them at Russia 2018 could spur them on to stage a strong resilience for a point or more. A poor outing against Belgium resulted in a 3-0 loss in their opening group game and having done their homework since, the CONCACAF representatives will fancy the idea of upsetting the match’s favorites.

In that regard, manager of the side Hernan Dario Gomez could bolster his attack by throwing in the talismanic Luis Tejada in the mix. Ismael Diaz could also make way into the starting lineup in place of Jose Luis Rodriguez.

In the Three Lions’ corner, Gareth Southgate is expected to rest the injured Dele Alli and give Ruben Loftus Cheek a starting berth in his place. Marcus Rashford has also been tipped to replace Raheem Sterling in attack in Sunday’s outing.
