2018 FIFA World Cup dates – June 14-July15, 2018

From the opening showdown featuring Russia vs Saudi Arabia on June 14, 2018, up to the World Cup Final match scheduled for July 15, 2018, there will be a variety of options for Spanish-speaking viewers to follow the World Cup in Mexico.

World Cup broadcasting rights in Mexico

FIFA awarded the World Cup broadcasting rights for Mexican territory to local networks TelevisaTV Azteca and Sky. Radio broadcasting rights were awarded to W Radio, W Deportes and Radio Fórmula. 

TelevisaTV Azteca, the biggest TV companies in Latin America, acquired broadcast rights for their TV platforms. They will air the tournament on TV on their network TV channels Las Estrellas, Canal 5, TDN, Azteca 7 and Azteca 13. They will also air the matches on their digital properties such as the website televisadeportes.com and their Televisa Deportes app. Sky HD will also broadcast the entire tournament on TV and their streaming service, Blue To Go, being the only broadcaster providing access to all 64 live World Cup matches.

W Radio and W Deportes hold exclusive radio broadcasting rights for all 64 games of the 2018 World Cup in Mexico. The amount of games aired on each radio station will be determined prior to the beginning of the competition.

What options will I have to follow the 2018 World Cup in English while in Mexico?

Sky HD will provide English coverage of the 2018 World Cup via their Second Audio Program (SAP) option in all of their broadcasts. Sky HD owns the broadcasting rights for all 64 matches, but this feature will only be available for TV users, so there will be no streaming coverage of the competition in English language.

What options will I have to follow the 2018 World Cup in Spanish while in Mexico

Televisa,TV AztecaSky HD and TDN will broadcast the 2018 World Cup in Spanish language. The two public TV broadcasters (Televisa and TV Azteca) will have rights for 30 games, including those played by the Mexican National Team. TDN will broadcast 40 games, while Sky HD will broadcast all 64 games on their channels. Additional coverage will be provided by Sky's mobile app Blue to go, which will match that of their website, bluetogo.mx.

Radio stations broadcasting the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Mexico

W Radio and its dedicated sports branch, W Deportes, will be the only networks broadcasting the competition In Mexico. With its 26 affiliates on Mexican soil and its territories, W Radio and W Deportes will share coverage for the 64 games. Check local radio stations for affiliates broadcasting each game. Radio Fórmula was also awarded radio broadcasting rights, but the network hasn't made any official announcement on the matter.

World Cup match times

Due to the 8-hour time zone difference between Mexico's Central Standard Time and the Russian capital, World Cup matches will be aired in the earlier part of the day.  Most matches during the group stage will be aired on regular repeating times daily. The daily match schedule will be as such:

  • First game kicking-off at 7:00 AM CT / 5:00 AM PT

  • Second game kicking-off at 10:00 AM CT / 8:00 AM PT

  • Third game kicking-off at 1:00 PM CT / 11:00 AM PT.

There will be a few exceptions to these times such as on Saturday, June 16.

  • France vs Australia will be aired at 5:00 AM CT / 3:00 AM PT

  • Argentina vs Iceland will be aired at 8:00 AM CT / 6:00 AM PT

  • Peru vs Denmark will be aired at 11:00 AM CT / 9:00 AM PT

  • Croatia vs Nigeria will be aired at 14:00 PM CT / 12:00 PM PT

From June 26-29, the match schedule will see only two matches aired daily at the following times:

  • 09:00 AM CT / 7:00 AM PT

  • 13:00 PM CT / 11:00 AM PT

The World Cup final will be aired on Sunday, July 15 at 10:00 AM CT / 8:00 AM PT
