The Gunners saw their lackluster performance punished by Rafa Benitez’s genius.

Although there wasn’t much at stake for the North Londoners going into Sunday’s game, many expected them to turn up and wipe what has been a disappointing away campaign in the league since the turn of the year. However, that wish was once again delayed after the Ginners recorded another loss despite going in front in the preliminary stage of the game against Newcastle.

The first-half ended on parity after Ayoze Perez’s strike canceled out Lacazette’s opener but Matt Ritchie ensured that the Magpies secured all three points with his second-half strike.

Below are what the goal and the win meant for the respective clubs:

  • Newcastle has won an EPL game against Arsenal at home for the first time since 2005.
  • Arsenal has lost five consecutive away league games for the first time in the Premier League era.
  • Arsenal remains the only Premier League club without a single away win or point in 2018.
  • Newcastle has won more points in the last 15 Premier League matches than any other team but the Top 4 (26).
  • Newcastle has won four successive EPL games for the first time since November 2014.

  • The victory means the Magpies have ended a 10-game EPL losing run versus Arsenal.
  • Ayoze Pérez finished off a sequence of 11 passes by Newcastle United which involved nine of his 11 teammates for his goal. That was one of the longest sequence for one of their EPL goals this season.
  • Only Man City and Liverpool have won against Newcastle United in the Premier League since Christmas Day.
  • Arsenal has lost five consecutive league matches away from home for the first time since December 1984.
  • The win was Newcastle’s first against Arsenal in the Premier League since November 2010.
