Preview

Both teams come into this game having won four and drawn one of their last five games across all competitions. However, while Barcelona are looking well on track to clinching the La Liga title, Roma are involved in a close battle for third place in Serie A. Each side drew their respective fixtures over the weekend, with the Blaugrana fighting back to earn a 2-2 stalemate with Sevilla and the Giallorossi scraping a one-all draw with Bologna.

Of the two sides, however, Barcelona obviously will be the happiest. Ernesto Valverde's troops were staring down the barrel of a first ever La Liga defeat before Lionel Messi came off the bench to work his magic. Roma, however, will feel bitterly disappointed they couldn't pick up a much-needed three points against a Bologna side who have hardly impressed this term, but Edin Dzeko's second-half effort saved them from an embarrassing defeat.

However, that draw came at a price, as key midfielder Radja Nainggolan likely won't feature here due to injury. In another blow for the visitors, young Turkish talent Cengiz Ünder is also struggling with a thigh complaint and is a major doubt for this already-tough fixture.

Barcelona have some doubts of their own, in particular concerning star midfielder Sergio Busquets, while Messi himself reportedly is not fully fit after suffering some hamstring issues while on international duty with Argentina. Nonetheless, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is expected to start here, and Busquets reportedly trained with the squad on Tuesday. Other potential absentees for the hosts also include Lucas Digne and Sergi Samper, and Philippe Coutinho is ineligible due to his participation in the Champions League with Liverpool.
