The German international was unhappy with his teammates’ performance in Tuesday’s loss.

Having humiliated Brazil in a 7-1 victory in their World Cup-winning year, many expected Die Mannschaft to put in a similar showing when a Neymar-less Brazil came to town. However, the sensational PSG forward was hardly missed as the likes of Willian, Paulinho, Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus stepped up in their compatriot’s absence.

It was, in fact, the latter who scored in the 37th minute to end Germany’s 22-game unbeaten run which dates back to the Euro 2016 semi-final. Speaking on the subject, an apathetic Toni Kroos heavily scolded some of his teammates for their unimpressive performance in Tuesday's blockbuster encounter.

"We had some players on the pitch who had the opportunity to show themselves at this level – they did not take it,” Kroos declared after the game.

"We allowed ourselves to be bossed around and then we saw that we’re not as good as we’re always told we are — and perhaps some of us think we are.

"That was clearly not enough from many of us."

The defeat meant that Germany – a side that has been heavily tipped to retain the World Cup title – has failed to win any of its last four games. Prior to the recent defeat, Joachim Lowe’s men had recorded successive draws against England, France, and Spain.
