The young English defender has been heavily criticized for the role he played in Liverpool’s defeat at Old Trafford.

Two first-half goals by Marcus Rashford put the Red Devils in the driving seat and eventually sealed the win for the hosts despite Liverpool pulling one back via an Eric Bailly own-goal. Nonetheless, while the young Mancunian was living the dream, another promising Englishman endured a nightmare in the afternoon's encounter.

Following the end of the game, many unhappy Liverpool fans took to the various social media platforms to slate Alexander Trent-Arnold for vacating his post at right-back and allowing Rashford to utilize the gaps left to get both goals. The 19-year-old full-back has since taken to Instagram to render an apology to the Liverpool fan base while commending the traveling fans for incessantly cheering the team on despite not getting the result.

Liverpool now sits five points behind second-placed Manchester United with 60 points. The Merseyside club could be demoted to the fourth position should Tottenham win against Bournemouth on Sunday.
