Mohamed Salah matched a record set by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler with his goal against Southampton.

The Egyptian forward put the Reds two goals up via an artistic backheel assist by Roberto Firmino with just three minutes to end proceedings in the first half. The strike took the former Chelsea and AS Roma man’s goal tally for the league season to 22 in 26 matches.

Subsequently, Mohamed Salah became tied at 19 goals apiece with Robbie Fowler with regards to the most goals scored with the left foot in a single Premier League season. With 11 more games left to be played in the campaign, the 25-year-old forward could easily topple Mr. Fowler’s record which was set in the 1994/1995 season.

Speaking after putting in a Man of the Man display, Mo Salah was quick to laud his teammates’ efforts and rehashed his desire to help his side push on.

"Three points is very important for us. The early goal made the game a bit easier, everyone performed very well today.

"When you score first, it makes the game easier and a bit less pressure, and we have to keep going now.

"I'm always thinking to help the team, that's the most important thing. I have to think about the next game now, we need to carry on."

Liverpool is currently two points shy of Manchester United. The Red Devils still sit second on the league log after an unexpected defeat away to Newcastle United.
