Manchester City solidified their position atop the English Premier League with an emphatic victory over Leicester

Vardy vs “The Big Six”

There was no “Vardy-Party” but there was a magnificent milestone to celebrate by the English forward. After scoring in 11 consecutive games in Leicester’s historic title-winning season, Jamie Vardy has once again inked his name into the Premier League’s record books with his goal at the Etihad.

The striker became the first player in the competition's history to have ever managed to score against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham in the same season. A misplaced pass from Nicolas Otamendi fell in the path of the Foxes forward who raced about 40 yards out to slot the ball past Ederson in City’s goal. The goal took the 31-year-old striker to 23 goals in 43 appearances against the Premier League 'Big Six'.

Liverpool tops the assailant's list with seven goals, with Arsenal following suit after conceding five goals off the striker’s boots. Chelsea and Tottenham boast of the least tallies with two apiece, while Manchester United and cross-town rivals Man City sit in third and fourth with three and four goals, respectively.

Schmeichel howler and Aguero’s poker

The Leicester City shot-stopper had a day to forget at the Etihad. His atypical performance saw him playing direct roles in two of Sergio Aguero’s four goals scored in his side’s thrashing. The Argentine forward got his first in the game via a Kevin De Bruyne assist after Raheem Sterling had put the Citizens in front earlier.

The Belgian midfielder, again, served up the Manchester City marksman’s second by capitalizing on an error between Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Kasper Schmeichel. At this point, the game was virtually out of reach but it was barely over for Aguero who sealed his 12th Manchester City hat-trick, following another Schmeichel blunder.

The former Atletico man ended the game by banging in his fourth of the day via substitute Phil Foden’s assist. Aguero’s tally for the domestic league season now stands at 21 goals in 20 appearances. His side currently sits atop the league log with 72 points – 16 points more than second-placed Manchester United who will make a bow against Newcastle on Sunday.
