Arsenal knows the clock is ticking on their Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pursuit. With the January transfer window deadline due on Wednesday, Wenger has only a few days to complete this deal.
The Frenchman recently informed the press that his side is not close to signing the Gabonese ace. Despite having lost Alexis Sanchez to Man United, Le Prof’s team is unwilling to meet Dortmund’s asking price.
The Bundesliga side values the striker at $85m and thus wants that amount to consider selling. The north London club, however, has only offered $71m for the 28-year-old.
The German outfit has thus grown frustrated with the Gunners and could walk away from the deal. One thing working in Arsenal’s favor, though, is the fact that a few key figures want Aubameyang out.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc are two people who believe the club would be better off without the wantaway attacker. This could benefit the Gunners in this transfer saga.
Manager Peter Stöger appears to be more forgiving, as he is ready to welcome the player back should he remain at the Signal Iduna Park. It shouldn’t be surprising to hear Aubameyang is set to feature in Saturday’s clash with Freiburg.
A lot can happen between now and Wednesday. The Arsenal board could finally loosen the purse strings and meet Dortmund’s asking price in time to have him available for Tuesday’s Swansea clash. Additionally, the deal could break down much to the disappointment of the fans.
