Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona has given Man United fresh hope in the race for Antoine Griezmann’s signature. However, the player’s demands put the move under huge risk.
Mourinho is a known admirer of the French ace. Furthermore, despite his below-par season, the Premier League giant is ready to return for the Atletico Madrid ace.
Griezmann appears destined to leave Simeone’s side. Old Trafford was his likely destination last summer, but Barcelona then entered the race to complicate things for the Red Devils.
Antoine is willing to snub the Catalan giant but is insisting on high wages from Man United. The attacker initially agreed to weekly wages of $392,443 last summer but now wants a staggering $541,300 per week.
This is according to a report by the Sun which claims the Special One is plotting a January move for the 26-year-old. Los Rojiblancos, however, is unlikely to entertain the idea of selling their star man until the summer.
Griezmann is eyeing other major signings in the current inflated market and has thus upped his wage demand. With the player likely to cost Man United roughly $120m in transfer fees alone, a source informed the British tabloid that the English club is reluctant to meet the player’s demand.
Man United, who will not be in action until their clash with Stoke on January 15, could do with a new goalscorer. Lack of finishing in attack has punished the Red Devils in what has been a frustrating season for Mourinho’s men.
