Passions were high after the game between Manchester United and Manchester City, and with the FA already investigating the incident, both managers stepped up to give their own version of what went down inside Old Trafford's tunnels.
The first one to speak about the incident was Pep Guardiola. The Spanish boss admitted that he allows his players to celebrate their wins, especially if they have just defeated one of their bitter rivals.
"When we lose we have to accept the defeat and when we win then celebrate. We celebrated in Napoli - you have to do that. I encourage them and it is what we did," Guardiola said.
"What happened (after) hopefully won’t happen again. The situation at Old Trafford when you go to the home locker room you have to pass the away one, but we were inside celebrating," the coach added.
Later, a reluctant José Mourinho chose to evade the issue, where goalkeeper Ederson confronted him after asking the Citizens to "show a bit more respect." Eventually, Mourinho accepted to answer one question about the incident.
"The only thing I can say is that for me it was just a question of diversity, diversity in behaviours, diversity in education, just that and nothing more than that," Mourinho stated.
Reports by the Daily Mail suggest that Mourinho had an empty bottle thrown at him, which infuriated Manchester United players. Moments later, Romelu Lukaku allegedly hurled another bottle, which hit assistant coach Mikel Arteta, causing him to bleed.
The FA has reportedly asked for CCTV footage and will summon representatives from both teams to clarify the incident and hand out the necessary sanctions.
