Arguably, many had not even expected the hosts to get this far, but upsets and unpredicted results are par for the course in football. Columbus Crew are definitely the underdogs in this two-legged tie, but the hosts will be certainly fancying their chances although they are taking on Toronto, who finished the regular season on top of the Eastern Conference.
Why? Well, the visitors come into this game missing two key players due to suspension. This couldn't come at a worse time for Greg Vanney's side. Both Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore are by far two of the biggest players for Toronto (besides perhaps Michael Bradley), but neither will be able to feature in this match. Giovinco misses out as a result of yellow card accumulation, while Altidore recieved a red card due to his involvement in a brawl in the tunnel during the team's last match against the New York Red Bulls.
Simply put, that's something that the Crew will be looking to exploit, and having already pulled off a major upset by beating NYC FC 4-1 at the end of last month, they will be hoping to pull off a similar result to give themselves some kind of buffer ahead of the return leg in Toronto next week. After all, it paid dividends in the semi-finals; although they lost the second leg at Yankee Stadium 2-0, their first leg victory proved to be enough to book their spot in the Finals.
