Thursday, October 5th

Here's how things look in Group C after eight matchdays

Group C's one of the more straightforward groups. Germany pretty much have already secured their spot thanks to a perfect run thus far that has seen them conceded just twice, and barring a shocking collapse over the next two games, die Mannschaft will top Group C. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland will finish second - but are not guaranteed a spot in the play-offs.

Why? Well, there are only eight spots availabile. There are nine groups. So, there's a possibility that someone could finish second and still fail to get a shot at trying their luck through a two-legged play-off.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane's been on fire lately, and England will hope that the Tottenham ace can carry that same red-hot form into international duty as the Three Lions aim to further extend their lead over the chasing pack as they take on Slovenia this Thursday. Scotland also have a good chance to vault up the standings as they take on second-placed Slovakia also on Thursday.

Friday, October 6th

Here's how things look in Group D after eight matchdays

Serbia are looking comfortably four points clear to top Group D and earn a spot in the upcoming World Cup thanks to their unbeaten run so far, but are not there just yet. Wales, however, will hope to keep their qualifying hopes alive but will have to do so without star man Gareth Bale, who's set to miss out the next two games due to a calf injury.

Here's how things look in Group G after eight matchdays

Thanks to their impressive 3-0 rout of Italy, Spain are firmly in control of this group and are set to finish as group winners. La Furia Roja are expected to cruise to comfortable wins in their next two matches, the first of which will be against Albania in a few days' time. Meanwhile, the Azzurri take on Macedonia, who have been already eliminated and obviously will need to win that game as now Italy will need every single point - and goal - possible in order to rank as high as feasible in the battle for a play-off spot.

Here's how things look in Group I after eight matchdays

Croatia still lead the way, but Iceland aren't giving up their hope at qualifying for their first ever World Cup. They face an already-eliminated Finland, who despite having nothing left to play for could try to cause problems, whilst Iceland will have a much sterner test against a Turkey side eager to make amends after rebounding from a surprise 2-0 loss to Ukraine by beating Croatia during the last international break. Turkey are very much still in it to even top the group should they beat Iceland and Croatia fail to defeat Finland, so this group is really shaping up to be an interesting one over the next two matchdays.

Saturday, October 7th

Here's how things look in Group A after eight matchdays

As things stand, it's a race between France and Sweden for top spot, but the Netherlands still do have a faint glimmer of hope at snatching a play-off spot. However, the Oranje will have to pick up maximum points against an an already-eliminated Belarus, whilst winning big versus the Eastern European outfit and somehow hopw that Sweden slip-up against Luxembourg to push the race for a runners-up spot to the final matchday.

Both Switzerland and Portugal are guaranteed of at least a play-off spot, so these last two days will decide obviously who tops the group and who finishes second.
