Who qualified for the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League?

Juventus, thanks to winning an unprecedented sixth straight Scudetto, will again feature in the Champions League. The Bianconeri suffered heartbreak during the most recent final as they were humiliated again by Spanish opposition, with their foes this time being Real Madrid, and La Vecchia Signora supporters will hope that Massimiliano Allegri's men will be able to finally clear that hurdle that has frustrated them for over two decades. Roma, who finished in second will join them, whilst Napoli will have to feature in a two legged play-off against Nice to book their spot in the Champions League.

Who qualified for the 2017-18 UEFA Europa League?

Meanwhile, Atalanta had a surprisingly good campaign under Gian Piero Gasperini, and La Dea deservedly now will have a chance to feature in the Europa League. Their fourth-placed finish means they automatically go into the group stage, and will be joined by Lazio, who finished in fifth. AC Milan, who concluded last season in sixth, are back in European competition for the first time in several seasons, and the Rossoneri will have to play four games to determine if they will make it to the group stages. Two of those will be against Romanian outfit CS U Craiova, and if they get past that team, then it's on to an opponent soon to be determined.

What were the biggest summer transfers?

AC Milan arguably have been the busiest team in Italy as the Rossoneri aim to get back on track. The Diavolo have brought in quite a few new faces, but their biggest signing definitely had to be Leonardo Bonucci, who shocked calcio fans by making a switch from Juventus to the Stadio San Siro for approximately €42M. Other acquisitions by Milan include Franck Kessie (for €8M on loan and €20M to buy), Andre Silva (€38M) and Andrea Conti (€24M).

Juventus also have been pretty active as well. The Bianconeri may have sold Bonucci, and ended Dani Alves's contract, but they brought in Bayern's Douglas Costa on loan, whilst acquiring rising Fiorentina star Federico Bernardeschi (€40M), experienced Arsenal shot-stopper Wojciech Szczęsny (about €16M), and Milan's Mattia De Sciglio (about €12.5M).

Roma, meanwhile, sold a trio of key players: Mohamed Salah to Liverpool, Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea, and Leandro Paredes to Russian outfit Zenit. Whilst they've brought in some reinforcements, fans aren't exactly convinced. Still, the window is still very much open, and other teams, like Inter, have been rather quiet, so we could see more changes taking place before it shuts next month.

What were the biggest managerial changes before the start of the season?

As usual, there has been a bit of a managerial merry-go-round in Italy. Over at Inter, Stefano Vecchi's caretaker spell expired, and he was replaced by Luciano Spalletti, who had departed his position at Roma. So, who will be in charge of the Giallorossi? Eusebio Di Francesco, who once played for the capital club as a midfielder. Di Francesco, who made his Serie A managerial debut with Sassuolo and helped guide the Neroverdi to an impressive sixth-placed finish during the 2015/2016 term, will be replaced by Cristian Bucchi for the upcoming season.

And Fiorentina has opted to part ways with Paulo Sousa in lieu of Stefano Pioli, who managed Inter and Lazio.
