Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho will have to put his coaching duties on hold for a few days, as his father, Felix Mourinho, sadly passed away on Sunday.

Back in May, Mourinho had some kind words for his father, and shared how he motivated him to become a successful coach after not being able to make a name for himself as a player.

"He was in the Portugal Premier League eight or nine years, he was champion of the Championship there four times. So he was a good manager in that generation. I learnt a lot from him of course with the experience he gave me. My father was a good manager," Mourinho told BT Sport.

"I had something that drove me. Maybe the fact that I was not a good player, maybe because when I started as a manager, it was the thing of, ‘If you weren’t a good player, you couldn’t be a good manager.' I was born into football, I played at lower levels but I was a player’s son, I grew up a manager’s son," Mourinho added.

No statement has been made by Manchester United or the Portuguese manager regarding how this event will affect the team's pre-season
