The Argentine ace had the honor of addressing Camp Nou's loyal fans during the pre-match preparations for the Joan Gamper Trophy

For the first time in his years at Barcelona, Lionel Messi was given the chance to address his fans as team captain, and he didn't disappoint.

The Argentine ace shared his views on what Barcelona fans should expect from their team this season, naming the UEFA Champions League title as their main target.

Added to that, Messi didn't hold back when praising some of the footballers he shared the dressing room with, including former captains Xavi, Puyol and Andrés Iniesta, a man "that will be sorely missed", according to the new first-choice captain.

Have a look at Messi's speech. If your Spanish isn't that good, don't worry, we'll provide you with a much-needed translation.

"Being the captain of this team makes me really proud. I know the responsibilty I have by taking the captain's armband, but I was lucky enough to have great examples such as Puyol, Xavi and last but not least, the great Andrés (Iniesta), who will be sorely missed this season."

"I believe that this year we have a team that can make us dream big. I think that this year's signings will help us become even better than we were last season. Last year wasn't all that bad, since we won La Liga and the Cup, but it's also true that we had to endure that tough Champions League loss, mainly due to how it happened. So, this year, we want to promise you that we will do everything in our power to bring that beautiful cup back to Camp Nou Stadium. Visca el Barça, and visca Catalunya"
