The Real Madrid captain said this ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash with Atletico.

Fans who have supported Real Madrid for nine years or less know little about life without Cristiano Ronaldo, meaning the upcoming brings unfamiliar uncertainty. However, Sergio Ramos has issued a reassuring message to supporters worried about how life will be without the Portuguese ace.

The 33-year-old announced his decision to leave Spain over the summer, calling an end to his unforgettable spell at Santiago Bernabeu to join Juventus. While the club has failed to sign an adequate replacement so far, the Blancos captain is confident life will go on in Madrid.

The center-back said, as per the Daily Mirror: "We have had lots of success, which is because we are a family and he was part of that family, which we have continued to have.

"It's obviously a negative when you lose a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, but we can continue to win and in Real Madrid's history many have come and gone, but Real Madrid continue to win.

"No one is above Real Madrid, whatever happens, Real Madrid will continue to live on and it was his choice to leave.

"The decisions are not mine to make, but the doors are always open to those that want to be part of Real Madrid.

"Losing Ronaldo was hard, but no player is above Real Madrid and we still have the hunger to improve and win more titles.

"The mindset we have is more important than any individuals in the team."

While the Spanish defender spoke truth in saying no one is above the team, the underlining question is whether Los Merengues can enjoy success without the Portuguese icon. Their first real test will come on Wednesday when Real Madrid takes on Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Newly-appointed manager Julen Lopetegui will trust the likes of Gareth Bale and Isco to lead the team in similar fashion to the five-time Ballon d;Or winner. Simeone's men will be no easy opposition, as they have been bolstered by the additions of Gelson Martins and Thomas Lemar.
