The Manchester City midfielder will no longer be involved in national team duties for Spain.

Spanish midfielder David Silva has announced his retirement from international football. The news came just a few days after his compatriot Gerard Pique also withdrew his services for La Roja to focus on his club career.

Silva, who was an integral member of the of Spain's "Golden Generation" that won the 2010 World Cup as well as the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, highlighted in a statement that the decision was an extremely tough one to make.

"I leave feeling happy with everything I have achieved," an excerpt of his post on Twitter reads.

"I lived and dreamed with a team which will be remembered forever; and I am bringing an end to an era filled with many moments which will live in my memory, such as the figure of Luis Aragones, a teacher I will never forget."

David Silva joins Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique as the third player to retire from the Spanish national team following an unsuccessful campaign at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The 32-year-old midfielder made his debut for his country in 2006 and scored 35 goals in 125 caps.
