The French ace scored Les Bleus' second goal and handed out the assist for Varane's header, but that was not what fans noticed the most today.

Antoine Griezmann stole the show today during the game between Uruguay and France for all the best reasons.

The French ace handed out the assist for Raphael Varane's opening goal, and went on to add one more for Les Bleus in the second half. But his gesture after the goal caught the eyes of fans around the world, as he refused to celebrate.

Griezmann's reluctance to celebrate comes due to a close link with his Uruguayan team-mates at Atlético, Diego Godín and Jose María Giménez. In fact, during the build-up to this game, Griezmann declared himself to be "half Uruguayan", something that prompted a disrespectful reply by Luis Suárez, who vehemently stated that the Frenchman had no idea about what it meant to defend Uruguay's jersey.

Furthermore, Griezmann and Diego Godín are close friends with family ties.

Needless to say, fans praised Griezmann not only for his performance, but also for this classy gesture directed to his Atlético team-mates.

"My respects to Griezmann. Even if he knew the relevance of his goal, he put his affection for his Atlético team-mates first."

And here's Griezmann's goal that started this conversation.
