Argentina's Copa America history and current form

It is a shocking stat, but the South American powerhouse that is Argentina, the nation that has produced the likes of Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, and Gabriel Batistuta have not won Copa America since 1993. La Albiceleste’s unsuccessful spell in the continental tournament is just shy of reaching 13 years.

Messi and Co. came achingly close to ending this streak in the 2015 edition in Chile, but saw their chances go up in flames after losing to the host nations on penalties, the third time in four Copa America tournaments in which the two-time World Cup winners went all the way to the finals only to lose at the last hurdle.

The White and Sky Blue headed into the 2015 Copa America on the back of their World Cup final defeat the year prior, yet still fell to the same fate, leaving the fans and players heartbroken. Since then, Argentina have enjoyed a few, morale-boosting ups, including their 7-0 win over Bolivia, a 2-1 revenge triumph over La Roja, and being named the best national team in FIFA’s most recent world ranking.

Who is Argentina's coach?

Gerardo Martino still remains at the helm of Argentina despite their 2015 final loss, having taken over from Alejandro Sabella back in August 2014. Tata reunited with La Pulga, having left his job at Barca prior to his appointment as La Albiceleste boss. Martino’s previous national team experience was with Paraguay, though his trophy cabinet isn’t one to boast about, having only won the Paraguayan Primera Division and Supercopa de Espana as a coach.

Copa America broadcasters in Argentina

Public broadcaster Televisión Pública Argentina has acquired the rights to air Copa America 2016 matches in Argentina, along with Telefe, El Trece and Torneos-owned TyC Sports. Pay-TV satellite broadcaster DirecTV Sports, who is telecasting all 32 matches across South America in the countries it operates, will also extend coverage to its web platform DirecTV Play.
