About Super Lig

The Turkish Süper Lig is the name of the upper echelon of football in Turkey. Like many of Europe's other leagues, it's based off a relegation and promotion system. 18 teams in total compete each season, and at its conclusion, three are relegated to the TFF First League whilst three others are promoted in their stead. Although initially founded in 1956, the first season, called the "1959 Milli Lig" did not take place until 1959, with Fenerbahçe winning the inaugural title.

Last season, Çaykur Rizespor, Gaziantepspor and Adanaspor were relegated. They were replaced by Sivasspor, Yeni Malatyaspor and Göztepe. Beşiktaş are currently the reigning champions and made it their 15th title last term.

Did you know: Galatasaray (20) count the most Turkish Super Lig titles ahead of Fenerbahce (19).
