About Czech Cup

Czech Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Czech Cup is an annual football competition for men’s clubs in the Czech Republic. The first Czech Cup matches were held in 1961, where the winner of the Czech Cup would face the winner of the Slovak Cup in the Czechoslovakia Cup final.

However, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in the early 1990s, the competition was ended in 1993, with the new Czech Cup being founded in its stead. In its current format, the competition is restricted only to clubs in the Czech Republic, with the winner earning an opportunity to compete in the UEFA Europa League during the following season.

Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague are among the most successful sides in Czech Cup history, with Sparta Prague making more finals appearances than any other team.

Starting in the 1990s, and following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, media rights for the Czech Cup were held by public broadcaster Česká Televize. Paid-TV channel Nova acquired TV broadcast rights in the early 2000s, and held them until around 2017, when Česká Televize was able to regain media rights running through the 2025/26 iteration of the Czech Cup.

In addition to Česká Televize, the Czech Cup is also shown and live-streamed on other networks, including O2 TV Sport and Eurosport. Starting around 2019, the Czech Football Association launched a new international streaming service, CzechTV+ which provides both live and on-demand streaming of different Czech sporting competitions, including the Czech Cup for viewers outside the Czech Republic.
