About Copa Chile

Copa Chile History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Chilean Cup, or Copa Chile in Spanish, is a knockout competition that includes teams from all categories in Chilean football. The tournament saw the light in 1958, but it has been paused many times due to different reasons. If the champions are enrolled in the Chilean Primera División, they are given access to the subsequent year’s Copa Libertadores, but if the winner belongs to one of the lower-tier categories, a monetary prize is handed to them and the berth to play in the continental tournament is decided by a different criterion.

The format of the competition has changed over time, but it’s KO spirit has prevailed. Teams from all over the country are given the chance to play in this tournament by being allocated in one of four regional brackets. The winner of each bracket enters the national round, where two-leg ties are used to determine the champion.

Primera División clubs have dominated this competition since it was created, with Colo-Colo winning more titles than any other team in the country, just like in the domestic top-flight.

Coverage of the Copa Chile has been negotiated by the Chilean Football Federation, with TNT Sports being in charge of covering all games on TV and via streaming. Linear channels for the network and the streaming platform Estadio TNT Sports have agreed long-term deals to cover the tournament until 2027.
