Campeonato Catarinense 1 History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Campeonato Catarinense, or Divisao Principal, is the top-tier football category in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The competition was launched in 1924 under the name Campeonato Catarinense. In 2006, the competition was rebranded to Divisao Principal.
The competition is usually held during the first three or four months of the year, with 12 teams fighting to win the title. The league works under a promotion-relegation system, where the two teams with the lowest number of points are relegated to Serie B, while the top eight teams enter a playoff stage. Once there, the teams will play home and away ties until two teams are left. Those will fight for the title and crown the winner of the Catarinense Championship.
The Campeonato Catarinense has been covered over the years by both TV and streaming platforms. Recent editions of the tournament have been streamed live and on-demand by NSports and OneFootball in Brazil.
