Horizon League Network, also known as HLN, is a digital sports service providing live and on-demand streams for the Horizon League. It was launched in 2006 and covers both men’s and women’s sporting events. Over the years, it has aired live basketball conference games, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Exclusive programs like ‘The Horizon League Report’ have also been available on the service. Many schools have had their teams featured on HLN, in the past. This includes Cleveland State University, University of Detroit Mercy, UW Green Bay, IUPUI, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, NKU, Oakland University, UIC, Wright State and Youngstown State University. In its first five years in operations, HLN was reported to have carried over 2,000 live events and attracted an international audience spread across more than 140 territories.
In 2011, the Horizon League became the first NCAA Division I athletics conference in USA to launch a mobile application featuring the league’s full live video collection. The Horizon League Network Live app was created to let users watch every game covered by HLN directly on their mobile devices. The Horizon League Network Live app also provided on-demand content and game highlights.
The Horizon League eventually reached an agreement with ESPN in 2014 to have HLN move to ESPN3. The Horizon League website may still offer live and on demand streams for league games for its international subscribers. Users must note that Horizon League event available on ESPN3 may also be streamed live on the official ESPN App in USA.
