About
FOX Sports VR History, Coverage, Features
FOX Sports VR is a service that lets sports fans in USA watch live events in immersive Virtual Reality with multiple high-resolution on-the-field camera angles. Users may benefit from the social experience that the service provides by connecting with other viewers while following their favorite sports teams.
The FOX Sports VR app is free to download and is compatible with Android and iOS mobile devices. User authentication via a participating TV provider may however be required before watching the live events. Subscribers may enjoy a 360-degree viewing experience for games of their choice via the FOX Sports GO Virtual Theater or through the FOX Sports App. A cardboard viewer, Gear VR, Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR may be used to improve the immersive experience further. Nonetheless, users without a VR headset may watch games 360 degrees on their computers by taking advantage of a click-and-drag functionality called Magic Window. In the past, FOX Sports VR has revolutionized the way soccer fans have watched major sports competitions in the U.S. The service provided coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and, the year before, it offered 360-degree video streams of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Major League Soccer Cup (MLS Cup), German Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League are other soccer tournaments that have been brought to FOX Sports VR users.
For other sports fans, the Big Ten Championship, Daytona 500, Super Bowl LI, and U.S. Open Championship are among the events that have been covered in the past. Skycam highlights have been provided in 360 degrees as well. The Social Virtual Reality feature, which enables viewers to connect together in similar fashion to multiplayer video games, was announced and released in the summer of 2017, in time for the Gold Cup that year. The FOX Sports VR app itself was launched in 2016, following a partnership between FOX Sports and next-gen OTT sports company LiveLike.
