About SBS

SBS is an Australia Television Channel owned and operated by Special Broadcasting Service. It was launched in 1980 and currently broadcasts in the 576i (SDTV) 16:9 and 1080i (HDTV) 16:9 picture format.

SBS is widely available on Australian Terrestrial, Satellite and Cable TV. It can be accessed on Terrestrial TV on DVB-T: Channel 7, Freeview SBS: Channel 3, and Freeview SBS HD: Channel 30. SBS is available on Satellite TV on Foxtel: Channel 104, and on VAST: Channel 3. On Cable TV: Foxtel/Optus Cable: Channel 104 and on TransACT on Channel 3.

SBS One was a re-branding of SBS TV, launched in 2009 at the same time with the launch of SBS’s sister channel SBS Two. It’s current sister channels include SBS HD, SBS Viceland Food Network and NITV.

SBS broadcasts soccer tournaments such as UEFA Champions League, UEFA EUROPA League, FA Cup (until the early 2000s), FIFA World Cup, FIFA Confederation Cup, and other sports such as American Football (NFL) cycling, rugby and Olympics.

Starting from 2010, SBS stopped broadcasting on analog TV and now is only available on digital TV. In 2015, SBS One changed its name back to SBS again. SBS can be accessed on all of SBS Television's television transmitters in SD Digital. However, the channel may have different TV program schedules in each state due to certain major sporting events. In 2010, SBS started broadcasting FIFA World Cup in 3D on Channel 4.
