Manchester United v Arsenal Match Preview:

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Arsenal’s dream of grabbing an automatic place in next season’s Champions League group stages is well dead and gone, after the Gunners suffered a thumping 4-1 home defeat to Guus Hiddink’s infuriated Blues, Chelsea.

Arsenal have therefore nothing to play for but pride when they travel to Old Trafford to meet Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. As for the Red Devils, this game could define the end of the road for Liverpool who are desperate to tear the English Premiership Champions down and steal the title.

Amongst Manchester United’s few defeats this season was a 2-1 loss away to Arsenal at The Emirates back in 2008. Since then, the Red Devils have gone out to correct themselves against the Gunners; a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the Champions League semis, followed by an overwhelming 3-1 triumph in London means that Manchester United have managed to reclaim their might against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

Copa del Rey Final: Athletic Bilbao v FC Barcelona

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

The Mestalla Stadium will witness a very interesting game on Wednesday 13, as Athletic Bilbao will face FC Barcelona to decide who deserves the Copa del Rey title. Both sides have won the prestigious domestic cup more times than other team in Spain, and with 24 King’s Cup trophies each, it is clear that the competition between both teams will get hotter and hotter as the final draws nearer and nearer.

Barcelona’s strength this season

It will be Pep Guardiola’s ideal chance to finish the first part of a possible treble for his club; however, though his players seem to be aware of the importance of the encounter, it is very unlikely that the Basques will bow down before Barcelona’s greatest stars.

It is true that Barcelona has had an incredible season so far, and their success has enabled them to be the only side in Europe’s major leagues to look forward to a treble, this season.

The Catalans’ quest for European glory continues after they eliminated Chelsea from the Champions League in the semifinals of the competition; moreover, they currently occupy the first place in the La Liga table with 85 points after 34 games played.

In addition, their devastating form has led them to Copa del Rey final. In fact, it wasn’t just luck which made them reach such a stage this season, but it was also hard work, which paid off.

Barcelona’s road to the final of the Copa Del Rey

Athletic Madrid were Barcelona’s first opponents from the first division, in the Copa del Rey Nevertheless, the result from the two legs didn’t proved to be as tight as most fans expected it to be. With Messi scoring a hat trick in the first leg, the Madrid club went on to loose 5-2 on aggregate.

AC Milan v Juventus Match Preview – Who gets the automatic Champions League slot?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The quest for the Scudetto is certainly over for AC Milan, but the Rossoneri can still be proud of their recent achievements. Surely, injuries did cost them a lot in almost two-thirds of the entire season. It’s only as the campaign is coming to a close that Milan have been displaying their best form.

Too little, too late

Five consecutive victories marked by some wonderful and entertaining football have fired AC Milan in second place above rivals Juventus but still seven points off the leaders Inter Milan with only four more weeks to go in Italy. Carlo Ancelotti’s side is mathematically still on course to winning the title, but the Milanese will prefer to go in Sunday’s big clash against Juventus with one aim: To create a seven points gap against the Bianconeri and almost seal an automatic place in next season’s Champions League group stages.

A miserable 4-2 defeat in the first leg of this fixture contributed in AC Milan’s renunciation of the Scudetto – a trophy they haven’t won in nearly five years now.
