Beckham has Landed

Friday, July 13th, 2007

David Beckham, his wife, Victoria, and their three young children landed at Los Angeles International Airport just after 8 p.m. on Thursday to begin their life in the USA. The introduction of Beckham by the Los Angeles Galaxy at a Home Depot Center press conference on Friday at 1 pm ET will be telecast live on ESPNEWS channel and on MLSnet.com. The Los Angeles Galaxy has reported that it has already received orders for 250,000 replica jerseys. Beckham’s arrival has already been greeted with an avalanche of media coverage, including a Sports Illustrated cover and a risqué photo shoot of David and Victoria in W Magazine.

At LAX, the Beckham couple, accompanied by security, waved at a crowd of about 300 outside the terminal and walked through a barricaded sidewalk before leaving in a black Lincoln Navigator.

The Beckhams’ sons — Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4 and Cruz, 2 — were escorted out of the airport through a different route.

Beckham, 32, will train with the Galaxy for the first time on Monday and will debut for the Galaxy in a friendly against Chelsea on July 21.

The Beckham’s will reside in the 13,000-square foot villa in Beverly Hills they bought for a reported $22 million.

Interesting Facts on Becks.

Interesting fact, especially considering that during the time period, Google was less internationally known than it is today.

GOOGLE reports that “DAVID BECKHAM” was the number one most-searched sport topic for the entire year of 2003 AND entire year of 2004 for Google news searches. Certainly has something to do with the fact that he was ALSO the HIGHEST-PAID PLAYER both of those years. American mainstream media should note!: The general public has known about this guy for a long time… (Read full article…)

Portugal and Mexico with strong starts.

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Mexico used three second-half goals to down Gambia 3-0 in Group C action at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Toronto on Monday.

On paper the game appeared to be a mismatch, pitting Mexico, winners of the under-17 world title in 2005, against a Gambia team making its first appearance in a FIFA U-20 World Cup.

But Gambia fought valiantly in a game where it played better than the score suggested and showed little fear against a Mexican team that’s among the favourites to win the tournament. (Read full article…)
