The FIFA World Cup men’s tournament now rotates from continent to continent:
In 2002, Asia first hosted (Japan/Korea), then 2006 to Europe (Germany). In 2010, the first African nation ever to host will be South Africa, and in 2014, South Americans want it, with Brazil as the clear favorite (FIFA announcing choice next year) . That would bring the finals to North America for 2018…
Even though there have been 3 FIFA World Cups for the men since USA hosted in ‘94, and even though those subsequent finals tournaments had each expanded to more matches, the USA-hosted finals still holds the all-time attendance record: 3.5 million spectators… Here is a late Tuesday story from AP on U.S. Soccer’s plans for 2018: (Read full article…)

GOLTV hits the pitch with CONCACAF U-20 Qualifying Wednesday February 21st and Friday February 23rd with games back-to-back both days starting at 6:00pm ET LIVE. On February 21st watch Jamaica vs. Costa Rica at 6:00pm ET LIVE then at 9:00pm hit the pitch with Mexico vs. St. Kitts and Nevis. Representatives from the three bids of Ukraine-Poland, Hungary-Croatia and Italy for UEFA’s Euro 2012 tournament handed over the final part of their bid documents.
This marks the beginning of the final rush in the 2012 race, which will end on April 18th in Cardiff, Wales, when UEFA’s Executive Committee will decide on who will win the rights to host the prestigious event in five years time.
The final documents detail all stadium agreements, host city agreements and accommodation plans. (Read full article…)

UEFA agreed several TV rights deals for the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2008™ tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
Free-to-air broadcast deals, as official broadcast partners for UEFA EURO 2008™, have been signed with existing partners HRT in Croatia, RUV - the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service - in Iceland, and TV3 in Slovenia, for all 31 matches of the event. Further coverage of the event will be granted through additional highlights programmes on all three channels. (Read full article…)

LONDON – First it was Manchester United. Then Aston Villa. And now Liverpool, with a record 18 English championships, also is about to come under American ownership.
Liverpool chairman David Moores said Tuesday he will sell his 51 percent stake in the storied club to George Gillett Jr., owner of the Montreal Canadiens, and Tom Hicks, who owns the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars. Moores recommended other shareholders do the same. (Read full article…)
