ESPN, ESPN2 AND ABC SPORTS  - 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP SCHEDULE
ALL matches live; Simulcast live in high definition by ESPN HD,
ESPN2 HD and ABC HD; Nightly World Cup Live studio shows

ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports, in conjunction with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), will present live coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Friday, June 9 through Sunday, July 9 from Germany.
ESPN2 and ESPN will combine to present 52 matches – 31 on ESPN2 and 21 on ESPN.  ABC Sports will broadcast 12 matches including the title match Sunday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m. ET from Berlin’s Olympiastadion (preceded by a 30-minute pre-game show at 1 p.m.).

While thirty-one countries fine-tune their preparations for the biggest showpiece event in the world, Italy and its World Cup hopes flutter in a maelstrom of controversy. As phlegmatic as Italy coach Marcello Lippi is, the press revelations of the sordid dealings of Luciano Moggi must be taking their toll even on him.

On Friday, May 19, Lippi appeared in front of magistrates to assure the authorities and a morbidly intrigued Italian public that he never gave in to ‘Moggi pressure’ when selecting players for the Italian national team.
The idea that Moggi had influenced Lippi’s decisions gained momentum when prosecutors scrutinized the mischievous figure’s sporting agency, GEA. The agency, in which Lippi’s son Davide is also an employee, represents a sizeable chunk of Italian football players. Allegedly, Moggi had put pressure on Lippi to not select Juventus players for the national team so that injuries and fatigue would not impinge on the club’s and GEA’s commercial interests.

Juventus looks to lock up the title when they take on Reggina LIVE on Sunday May 14th at 9:00am ET. Czech Republic star Pavel Nedved and Italy’s Gianluca Zambrotta highlight the Juventus roster.

Lee Godfrey brings an extensive amount of soccer broadcast experience to GOLTV Canada, where he is the host of “The Contenders” and also the play-by-play commentator for “Match Capsule,” a GOLTV original production.

Before joining the team at GOLTV, Lee worked at Rogers Sportsnet as their soccer reporter filing regular stories for Soccercentral and providing insight along the sidelines during live broadcasts. Lee was the sideline reporter for the 2003 Women’s World Cup, 2004 U-19 Women’s World Championship Qualifying and 2006 Men’s World Cup Qualifying. (Read full article…)
