TSN & Sportsnet Euro 2008 Coverage

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

TORONTO (May 8, 2008) – In a continuing effort to provide Canadians with the most comprehensive coverage of world class soccer, TSN announced today an agreement with Rogers Sportsnet to jointly televise all 31 games live from EURO 2008, which takes place in Austria and Switzerland from June 7 to 29.  All games, as well as pre- and post-game shows, will be available in High Definition.TSN acquired the English-language broadcast rights to EURO 2008 last year.  This sub-licensing deal with Sportsnet ensures that Canadians will be able to watch every game live, and follows the previous successful agreements between the two networks for joint coverage of the Canada/Russia Super Series junior hockey event and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Emmanuel Adebayor headed Arsenal in front in powerful fashion from Robin van Persie’s cross after 23 minutes.

Arsenal’s lead lasted only three minutes before Steven Gerrard set up Dirk Kuyt to score from close range.

The Gunners had a clear penalty appeal turned down after the break when Kuyt hauled back Alexander Hleb in the area.

Arsenal were the better side over the 90 minutes but Liverpool will hope the trademark Anfield atmosphere will help them into the semi-final for the second successive year after Kuyt’s crucial away goal.

Fenerbahce 2-1 Chelsea

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Fenerbahce mounted a stunning comeback to shock Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Chelsea took the lead when Deivid diverted Florent Malouda’s cross into his own net and Michael Essien also hit the bar in a one-sided first half.

But the Turkish side levelled when London-born Colin Kazim-Richards smashed home Mehmet Aurelio’s pass.

And Deivid made amends for his early error to win the game with a superb 30-yard strike into the top corner.

Ronaldo’s brilliant free kick

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Another day, another double. Cristiano Ronaldo repeated Sunday’s fireworks against Tottenham Hotspur with two more splendid strikes against Portsmouth here. Ronaldo now has 27 for the term, and even Sir Alex Ferguson admits that such a rising tally “invites comparisons with George Best”, who became Manchester United’s highest-scoring winger with 32 in the glorious 1967-68 season.

“I don’t want to put pressure on the lad,” wrote Ferguson in the programme about Ronaldo, “except to say that he seems to thrive on expectation and the targets people set him. Considering he is scoring at the rate of almost a goal a game, I certainly won’t be betting against him joining Best in the record books.” Like Best, Ronaldo is doing it in thrilling fashion.

Egypt vs Tunisia

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Don’t miss today’s exciting match at 15:30 (3:30pm) Eastern - Tunisia vs Cameroon

Tunisia may make as many as four changes in their quarter-final with Cameroon, although both sides have full squads from which to choose.

Francileudo Dos Santos is likely to replace Armine Chermiti upfront.

Cameroon have lost in the quarter-finals of the last two Nations Cups, and Jaidi believes that 2004 champions Tunisia will be competitive.

Tunisia finished top of Group D with a win and two draws, while Cameroon were runners-up in Group C.

Cameroon coach Otto Pfister is confident that his side is moving in the right direction, having followed the defeat by Egypt with comprehensive wins over Zambia and Sudan.

"The worst is over for Cameroon, we have made the necessary corrections and now we have to play to our maximum," said Pfister.

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has provided one of the tournament’s highlights, by setting a new all-time Nations Cup goalscoring record.

But Pfister knows that Eto’o alone will not win the Cup for his team.
