TFC READY TO TAKE THE BULLS BY THE HORNS

TORONTO (June 10, 2009) – Toronto FC look to keep pace in the East when they host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m. (ET) on Rogers Sportsnet Ontario.

Gerry Dobson will handle the play-by-play from BMO Field in Toronto, while former Canadian goalkeeper Craig Forrest provides the analysis.

The Reds are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy last Saturday.   Toronto has dropped to seventh-place in the Eastern Conference standings and is entangled in a four-way tie for third place with 16 points, five back of the first-place Chicago Fire.   TFC could be without Captain Jim Brennan who left the Galaxy match with an ankle injury and is doubtful for this weekend’s tilt with New York.   On Tuesday, TFC acquired defender Nick Garcia from the San Jose Earthquakes, along with the discovery rights to Canadian forward Ali Gerba.  In exchange, San Jose receives Toronto’s 3rd round selection in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.  To make room on the roster for Garcia, FC goalkeeper Greg Sutton has been released.

The Red Bulls sit last in the Eastern Conference, seven points back of TFC.   Through 14 games this season, New York has been blanked nine times, including a 4-0 loss to the New England Revolution on Sunday.  New York holds a 3-2-1 all-time advantage over their northern counterparts while both teams split the season series at 1-1-1 last year.
