Goals for Saturday, November 10, 2007
Liverpool 2 - Fulham 0 (Premier League, November 10, 2007) Liverpool came close to taking the lead in the first-half as Crouch’s header rebounded off the bar. The Reds continued to pepper the Fulham goal in the second-half, again from Voronin and then Benayoun. Benitez then brought on Torres in the second-half (highlights here), and El Nino’s impact was almost immediate as he collected Reina’s clearance to expertly control and score past Niemi. Crouch was then awarded a penalty (outside the box), which Gerrard converted for number two.
Sunderland 1 - Newcastle 1 (Premier League, November 10, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) Worryingly for Sunderland, they bossed the game from beginning to end but they still failed to claim all three points. The Black Cats should have been in front by the break (Smith saved a certain goal) but they got then just deserves when Newcastle’s forever dozy defence tuned out, allowing Higginbotham to head home at the back-post. But soon after McShane failed to cut out Milner’s cross, which ended up going-in off the post.
Derby 0 - West Ham 5 (Premier League, November 10, 2007) West Ham United scored their biggest league win since returning to the top-flight two years ago when they crushed Derby. Bowyer (handball) put the Hammers just before the break, Etherington made it two. An own-goal from Eddie Lewis, a second from Bowyer and a sweet free-kick by Nobby Solano completed the rout.

Stuttgart 3 - Bayern Munich 1 (Bundesliga, November 10, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) The top game in Germany began in explosive fashion, as champions Stuttgart took the lead when Mario Gomez was gifted too much space in the Bayern Munich box, allowing him to head/chest the ball home. Bayern then fell further behind as the champions turned the screw with a delightful strike from distance from Basturk, and the first-half demolition was completed by Gomez’s second goal after more appalling Bayern defending. Bayern’s misery was compounded when Lucio was sent-off, but Luca Toni’s rebound earned them a consolation. This was Bayern’s first defeat of the season.
Schalke 1 - Hamburg 1 (Bundesliga, November 10, 2007) Krstajic headed the home side into the lead but Hamburg got themselves level when Olic scored with a header.

Getafe 2 - Barcelona 0 (La Liga, November 10, 2007) Getafe took a surprise lead against Barcelona in the first-half (highlights here), when Moral stole into the box unmarked to connect with a free-kick. But it the second-half the home side looked good value for their lead, and Barca had no answers as they resorted to play-acting. Zambrotta was send-off for a reckless tackle before Albin killed the game with a 90th minute second.
