Goals for November 6th, Champions League

Liverpool 8 - Besiktas 0 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) Liverpool had a two goal cushion at the break, firstly through Crouch after the ball fell kindly in his path and then through Benayoun’s well-hit strike. The Reds went goal crazy in the second half, with Benayoun bagging the second and third of his treble before seeing Steven Gerrard (69), Ryan Babbel (79 and 81) and Crouch (89) also net. The result broke Arsenal’s short-lived reign of the biggest win in Champions League history.

Schalke 0 - Chelsea 0 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) Chelsea rode their luck to escape with a goalless draw. Schalke almost went ahead when Rafinha hit the top of the bar with a cheeky lob, and Peter Lovenkrands raced clear on the left only to smack a shot against the left-hand post in the dying moments. The game ended with high tensions clearly on show.

Valencia 0 - Rosenborg 2 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) Steffen Iversen’s first Champions League group phase goal in 11 years put Rosenborg ahead on 31 minutes as he finished off a slick break from the Norwegians. Shakhtar Donetsk 0 - AC Milan 3 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) Inzaghi provided his trademark poacher’s finish to a through ball from Andrea Pirlo in the 66th minute and then laid the ball off for Brazil playmaker Kaka to drive home the second. Kaka returned the favour deep in stoppage time, bearing down on goal on the break and slipping the ball to Inzaghi for a simple finish from close range.

Olympiakos 0 - Real Madrid 0 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) (First-half highlights here.) A fine performance by veteran goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis kept Madrid at bay. The 36-year-old produced three top-class saves to deny Robinho and Wesley Sneijder to hold Real to a draw. Real also struck the woodwork twice with Diarra hitting the post and van Nistelrooy the bar.

Porto 2 - Marseille 1 (Champions League, November 8, 2007) Tarik Sektioui opened the scoring for the home side before Niang equalised with a downward header off a Bonnart cross. Lopez headed the winner late on, connecting with a cross from Ricardo Quaresma.
