Sunderland 0 - Liverpool 2 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Mohammed Sissoko scored his first goal for the Reds, a sweetly struck right foot shot from outside the box. Chelsea 1 - Portsmouth 0 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Lampard almost gave Chelsea the lead against Pompey in the first minute, and the Blues took the lead when David James failed to stop Lampard’s shot. With minutes remaining Ashley Cole saved off the line from Distin to protect Chelsea’s lead. Jose wants his “team to play better”, whilst Harry Redknapp believed his team put in a “terrific performance”.
Arsenal 1 - Manchester City 0 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Van Persie came close for the Gunners at home against Sven’s City early on, and just after the half-hour RVP was inches from connecting onto Fabregas’ cross. Ten minutes into the second-half Petrov flashed a chance wide. Midway through the second-half, Kasper Schmeichel saved a pen from Van Persie. With ten minutes remaining Cesc Fabregas finally got the breakthrough with a fine finish from a tight angle. Aston Villa 2 - Fulham 1 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Ashley Young’s shot, deflected off Zat Knight, cancelled out Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey’s first-half effort and, after Chris Baird had been sent off with 20 minutes remaining, Maloney struck in the dying seconds. Everton 1 - Blackburn 1 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Santa Cruz scored his third goal in three games, but the Toffees got a point from McFadden right-foot volley .
West Ham 1 - Wigan 1 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Lee Bowyer rescued a draw for West Ham with a rare goal in a late show started by Austrian Paul Scharner’s acrobatic overhead strike 12 minutes from time.
Derby 1 - Birmingham 2 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Cameron Jerome got both Birmingham goals as Steve Bruce’s side chalked up their first win of the season. Derby had levelled through Matt Oakley six minutes into the second-half, leaving the Rams with just one point from their first four games.
Bolton 3 - Reading 0 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Sammy Lee finally got his first win. Gary Speed headed them into a 32nd-minute lead and El-Hadji Diouf’s through ball set up Nicolas Anelka for a simple second. Bolton were in total command and it was no surprise when Anelka crossed for substitute Daniel Braaten to make it three in the last minute. Sammy Lee praised his boys for their effort.

Kilmarnock 1 - Rangers 2 (SPL, August 25, 2007) Jean-Claude Darcheville’s late winner allowed Rangers to maintain their perfect start to the SPL season.
Celtic 5 - Hearts 0 (SPL, August 25, 2007) An own goal by Christophe Berra and a fine solo effort from Massimo Donati gave the Hoops a 2-0 interval lead. Scott Brown’s first goal since signing from Hibernian, a penalty from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and a Shunsuke Nakamura effort secured the comprehensive win.

Bayern Munich 3 - Hannover 0 (Bundesliga, August 25, 2007) Bayern make it three wins out of three, and move two points clear at the top. Luca Toni, Mark van Bommel and Hamit Altintop got the goals.
Stuttgart 1 - Duisburg 0 (Bundesliga, August 25, 2007) Defending Bundesliga champions Stuttgart got a goal from Mario Gomez to earn its first win of the season.

Lazio 2 - Torino 2 (Serie A, August 25, 2007) Rosina’s perfect chip gave Torino the lead in a first-half in which three players went off with injuries, including Lazio defender Mobido Diakite with a suspected broken leg. Lazio equalised through Pandev, before Rocchi put the Romans into the lead. Torino hit back when the unmarked Vailatti headed in at the far post.
Juventus 5 - Livorno 1 (Serie A, August 25, 2007) A hat-trick by David Trezeguet and a brace from Vincenzo Iaquinta gave newly-promoted Juventus a thumping victory on the opening day.

Real Madrid 2 - Atletico Madrid 1 (La Liga, August 25, 2007) Real Madrid fell behind on Sergio Aguero’s strike less than a minute into the match, Raul equalised in the 14th minute. Wesley Sneijder scored in the 79th minute as defending Spanish La Liga champions came back to win.
Sevilla 4 - Getafe 1 (La Liga, August 25, 2007) Sevilla got their Liga campaign off to a winning start with a 4-1 win over nine-man Getafe. Hernandez’s perfect free-kick had put the home team behind, but Sevilla replied with goals from Navas, Fabiano, Kanoute and Kerzhakov.
