England 1 - Germany 2 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) England took the lead with a great goal from Frank Lampard. Kuranyi got the equaliser after an awful sequence of blunders from Robinson, before Pander scored an absolute screamer. Boy Wonder Owen managed to miss an open goal and Joe Cole’s shot just missed target. England should have equalised, or even should have taken the lead, but they missed several good chances. Frank Lampard also missed a great chance.

Brazil 2 - Algeria 0 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) Brazil had several opportunities to take the lead, through Robinho, Baptista and Ronaldinho’s free-kick. In turn, Algeria’s claims for a penalty were turned down by the ref. Brazil finally took the lead with a goal from Maicon from a corner. Algeria then had a second penalty appeal rejected, before Ronaldinho scored made it two from a rebound. Alex almost scored the third, when he was very close with a header.

Norway 2 - Argentina 1 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Norway took the lead against Argentina from John Carew’s penalty. Messi showed some great skills at the beginning of the game. Just before half-time Argentina should have equalised. John Arne Riise got a powerful shot on goal, but the hero of the night was Carew, who bagged the second. Maxi Rodriguez got a consolation.

Russia 2 - Poland 2 (International friendly, August 22, 2007)

Japan 2 - Cameroon 0 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Tanaka and Yamase scored for Japan.

Denmark 0 - Ireland 4 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Robbie Keane scored twice.

Slovakia 0 - France 1 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Henry scored for France, remember Giggs against Lille?

Bosnia 3 - Croatia 5 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Arsenal striker Da Silva put Croatia ahead against Bosnia.

Bulgaria 0 - Wales 1 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Wales won the game thanks to Freddy Eastwood’s solitary goal.

Hungary 3 - Italy 1 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) An impressive display by West Bromwich Albion midfielder Zoltan Gera, who scored a penalty and set up the other two goals, allowed Hungary to come from behind and cap a memorable night.

Sweden 1 - USA 0 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) Kim Kallstrom scored a sweet left-foot strike to give the home team a well deserved win.

Belgium 3 - Serbia 2 (Euro 2008 qualifier, August 22, 2007) Two goals from Moussa Dembele and another from Kevin Mirallas on his international debut earned Belgium a valuable win in the group.

Northern Ireland 3 - Liechtenstein 1 (Euro 2008 qualifier, August 22, 2007) Northern Ireland moved second in their group after a comfortable win in Nigel Worthington’s first game as manager, where David Healy remains the talisman with two first-half strikes.
