Barcelona 2 - Espanyol 2 (La Liga, June 9, 2007) Barca fell behind to a shock Raul Tamudo goal, which he finished expertly after being put through by a sublime Del la Pena pass. Then, in a pure act of deception and cheating, Lionel Messi copied the original “Hand of God” to “score” a handball which meant Espanyol went into the break at 1-1. (This is the second time this season that “Messidona” has struck.) Messi, just like his predecessor, then showed his class to put Barca ahead, and put the championship within touching distance. But then, in dramatic scenes, Tamudo was put through one-on-one with Valdez in the 89th minute to claim his second goal of the game, to leave Barca trailing Real into the final week of the season knowing that their destiny is now out of their control.
Zaragoza 2 - Real Madrid 2 (La Liga, June 9, 2007) Zaragoza went into the break leading, after Helguera brought down the inspirational Pablo Aimar in the box, leaving Diego Milito the simple task of converting a penalty. Real refused to lie down and levelled the game through their top goalscorer - Ruud van Nistelrooy - when he headed the ball into the corner after connecting with a Ramos cross. But it looked desperate for Madrid after they conceded a second, when Milito (in an offside position) collected a wonderful pass from Aimar to put the ball through Casillas’ legs. With Barca leading at the time, Real kept on attacking and they finally got their reward in the 89th minute when van Nistelrooy got his 25th goal of the campaign with a classic finish in the six-yard box. Real now know that victory next weekend against Mallorca will mean the championship will be heading back to Madrid.
