OCEANSIDE MAYOR AND CITY OFFICIALS KICK UP THE SAND THIS WEEKEND
AT THE FIRST EVER 2007 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BEACH SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP
OCEANSIDE –Oceanside City Mayor Jim Wood and City Manager Peter Weiss will be honored guests this Friday night at a VIP Reception welcoming city officials and sponsors to the Southern California Beach Soccer Championship, held on the beautiful Oceanside Harbor beach this weekend.
The two day tournament from 8am – 6pm, Saturday and Sunday May 19/20, will feature more than 150 teams from all over the Southwest battling it out for beach soccer’s West Coast crown.
The Southern California Beach Soccer Championship in Oceanside is open to teams of all varieties, including military groups, men’s, women’s and co-ed teams, college-level squads, and teen and children’s teams. Among the clubs registered to compete in Oceanside this weekend are San Diego Surf, Temecula Valley, Temecula United, Oceanside Breakers, Carlsbad Wave, Escondido Heat, Three Lions International, Anaheim, Hemet, AYSO Inferno, RFC Milan, Espana FC, Compton United, El Cajon Matrix , West Coast FC and MANY more.
Besides round the clock tournament play, there will be lots of other entertainment for all ages, including a visit by the LA Galaxy Street Team. Registered teams will take part in a soccer clinic Friday evening taught by former pro beach player Eddie Soto and members of the Santa Cruz Team 99, ranked #3 in the world. Olympic soccer gold medalist Shannon MacMillan will also make an appearance, as will NCAA wrestling champion Wayne Boyd.
There will also be USA Beach Wrestling championships on the beach, raffles, a vendor fair, and interactive games compliments of the Adidas mobile tour with CXT production pickup truck, filled with 3 flip screens featuring X-Box 360 and much more.
Money raised at the event will help benefit Operation Appreciation, Camp Pendleton’s Morale Welfare Programs, the Diabetes Foundation, and the Soccer Club of Oceanside.
