Newcastle play host to Tottenham after falling 1-nil to Chelsea in the Carling Cup quarterfinals. The Spurs too had a mid-week Carling Cup fixture, besting Championship-side Southend late in extra time. Now both teams turn their attention to Premiership. A win for Newcastle would give the Magpies their fourth consecutive home victory and could vault them into the top half of the table. A victory for the Spurs would put the Spurs on pace with Liverpool, and just ahead of Arsenal and Bolton , in a battle for a Champions League spot.

Sampdoria travel to the Stadio Massimino tied for points with Catania , though they are ahead on goal difference.
