Globo launches its second international channel in the US on DISH Network and DIRECTV
Available on: DISH Network, DirecTV and DirecTV Para Todos
PFC Internacional, a Portuguese-language sports channel focused on the international market, specially produced for soccer fans and Brazilians living abroad, will launch on DISH Network and on DIRECTV in January 2007. The channel is produced by Globosat, the largest Pay-TV programmer in Brazil, part of the Organizações Globo (Globo Organizations). TV Globo’s International Business Division will be responsible for negotiations and distribution to new carriers.
PFC Internacional will be available in the United States on the DIRECTV WorldDirect™ programming platform and on DISH Network™ satellite television service, the largest provider of Brazilian programming in the United States.
The channel, to be broadcast in Portuguese, offers more than 300 live matches during the year and entire previously recorded matches from seven major competitions in the country. From January to May, it will show states championships from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais; from February to June, the Brazilian Cup and, from May to December, PFC Internacional transmits matches for the Brazilian Championship, series A and B.
Besides broadcasting the matches, the PFC Internacional lineup also includes Globosat sports programs. Five shows have been chosen, focusing on Brazilian soccer content, such as “Arena SporTV”, “Troca de Passes”, “Redação SporTV” and “SporTV News”.
“This is the second Globo channel in the international Pay-TV market. It fulfills an important demand from the Brazilian community abroad,” said Marcelo Spinola, director of International Distribution. “We expect to repeat with PFC Internacional the excellent results we have obtained with the TV Globo Internacional channel, present today in 66 countries on the five continents. To do so, we count on a solid marketing and international sales strategy, which will ensure us a prominent position in the market.”
“PFC Internacional is a milestone in Brazilian television. Brazilians who live abroad will be able to follow, throughout the year, the progress of the teams they love,” says Elton Simões, director of Globosat channels on the pay-per-view and à la carte system.
